The 5 Australian prime ministers to publically say that they do not believe in a Christian god, and hence are either articulate atheists or agnostics :
Julia Gillard, John Curtin, John Gorton, Gough Whitlam and Bob Hawke.
Harold Halt should also be considered as he was a nominal atheist or agnostic.
Alfred Deakin needs special mentioning, as he was a christian as well as a spiritualist who is said to have taken part in seances (which is somewhat contradictory).Furthermore, 10 former prime ministers have held nominal christian beliefs, that is : they identified as christian but were not observant christians.

#12. Source : ABC.net.au : Of religion and Australia. The estimate was derived from this article.
The author of the article, is Simon Smart. He is the director of the Centre for Public Christianity.
The actual quote used in that article is as follows : "In the first national census in 1911, 96 per cent of the population identified as Christian but by 2011 this had dropped to 61 per cent. Williams thinks probably only about one third of that 61 per cent have anything more than a vague cultural attachment to the faith".So while I haven't directly quoted the article, you can see how I obtained the estimate/wording that I have used ... they both essentially say the same thing, just different emphasis.
#13. Source : ABC.net.au : Hack : Doctors call for country gp's to be abortion providers (28th August 2016).
I did contact the author of this article to clarify - specifically the AU abortion estimate - he substantiated what he wrote in the article using information sourced from ...
Victoria Law Reform publication. His reply also included links to the actual reports/pdfs, so that I could independently verify.
